There is so much between Lake and Canyon Village. Hayden Valley is the place to be to see large wildlife. Those dots below are buffalo. By the way, a lot of the photos you see are taken by Ian with my digital 35mm. He's getting pretty good.
The Canyon area is all about the Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone (river). It's the most crowded place we visited today besides the buffalo traffic jam in Hayden Valley.

Tower Falls - the trail to get close was closed, but we found it also took you down to the Yellowstone river valley below. We hiked down and hung out for a long time.
